Patient Stories

Every transplant is a second chance at life. Here are the stories of patients who chose Dr. Srinivas — and got their lives back.

Liver transplant patient recovered and living fully

"I was given 6 months to live. That was 3 years ago."

When Ramesh (55, Bengaluru) arrived at Dhaara Liver Clinic, his MELD score was 28. He had end-stage cirrhosis from Hepatitis B, with refractory ascites and two prior episodes of variceal bleed. His wife had been told to prepare for the worst.

His son volunteered as a living donor. Within 3 weeks of evaluation completion, Dr. Srinivas performed the transplant at Kauvery Hospital. Ramesh was discharged on day 14. He now walks 5km daily and recently attended his grandson's naming ceremony.

"My wife collapsed on a Tuesday. By Thursday, she had a new liver."

Priya (38, Mysuru) developed acute liver failure from drug-induced liver injury (antitubercular drugs). She was admitted in Grade III encephalopathy. Her husband flew to Bengaluru with her on a medical transfer.

Within 6 hours of admission, Dr. Srinivas had assessed her, initiated transplant listing with ZCCK, and identified her brother as a compatible living donor. The transplant was performed 48 hours after admission. Priya walked out of hospital 18 days later.

"Two centres told me surgery was too risky. Dr. Srinivas operated."

Suresh (62, Chennai) had a 6.5cm HCC in a cirrhotic liver. Two hospitals in Chennai had declined surgery citing risk of liver failure. His son searched for a second opinion and found Dr. Srinivas.

After careful volumetric assessment and portal vein embolisation to grow the future liver remnant, Dr. Srinivas performed a right hepatectomy successfully. Suresh's liver regenerated within 8 weeks, AFP normalised, and he remains cancer-free at 2 years.

"I was told Whipple's was too dangerous at my age. He proved them wrong."

Jayaram (68, Tumkuru) had a resectable pancreatic head cancer. His local hospital declined surgery citing his age and borderline cardiac status. His daughter brought him to Dhaara Liver Clinic for a second opinion.

After cardiac optimisation and careful pre-operative preparation, Dr. Srinivas performed a laparoscopic-assisted Whipple's procedure. Jayaram was eating by day 4 and discharged on day 10 — faster than average open surgery.

"30 years of hepatitis C — cured in 12 weeks."

Anand (55, Bengaluru) had been living with chronic Hepatitis C for over 30 years, with early cirrhosis (F3 fibrosis). He had been on interferon-based therapy twice with no sustained response and had given up on a cure.

Dr. Srinivas prescribed a 12-week course of Sofosbuvir/Velpatasvir. SVR12 confirmed. His fibrosis has improved on Fibroscan follow-up, and he continues regular HCC surveillance.

"Our 3-year-old was born with biliary atresia. She starts school next month."

When Meera was born, she was diagnosed with biliary atresia. The Kasai procedure at 6 weeks helped initially but liver failure progressed by age 2. Her parents were told transplant was her only option.

Meera's mother donated a left lateral segment at age 3. Dr. Srinivas performed the paediatric transplant at Kauvery Hospital. Meera, now 6, is thriving — growing normally with no complications.
